Pokuase ACP Estate Residents Appeal for Urgent Fix of Poor Drainage to Avert Flooding

Residents of Pokuase ACP Estate, near High Tension in the Ga North Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, are appealing to the Municipal Assembly and relevant authorities to urgently fix the poor drainage system in the area to avert future flooding.

According to the residents, the main drain near His Presence ICGC Church is choked with rubbish.

They allege that some individuals and companies have illegally connected their sewage lines, including urine, toilet and industrial waste, directly into the open drain, causing severe discomfort.

Speaking in an interview with DL FM’s Nana Adwenpa-Hene-Odiasempa II, the residents said the situation contributed to the flooding incident recorded on June 19, 2026, which led to the collapse of some fence walls in the area.

They lamented that the drain emits a strong stench, especially during rainfall, and warned that the situation poses serious health risks and could lead to a disease outbreak.

The residents further noted that the drain was captured under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) project, funded by USAID to the tune of one million dollars under the previous government, but the project was not completed.

They added that although the issue has been reported to the Ga North Municipal Assembly on several occasions, no action has been taken.

They are therefore calling on the Assembly, the Works Department, and all relevant authorities to intervene as a matter of urgency before the situation worsens.
