Former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South constituency in the Eastern Region, Lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has not made any remarkable strides in granting economic freedom to Ghanaians.

He explained that their popular 2024 campaign mantra, the 24-hour economy policy, remains in its infancy and has yet to yield tangible results.

“Some people are also commending them for the relative stability of the cedi against the United States dollar,” he mentioned.

“However, they would be astonished if they were aware of the quantity of gold sold to bolster the Ghanaian currency, and this raises concerns about the country’s economic future,” noted Lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea.

“Since the establishment of the GoldBod, galamsey activities have spiralled out of control, and it appears that they are procuring gold from galamseyers, thereby exacerbating the situation.”

Lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea, who also served as the former Minister for Works and Housing, made these remarks to DL FM’s Kontihene Kofi Oboh at Kyebi M/A Experimental Basic School after casting his vote to elect a new leader for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to contest the 2028 elections.

“Currently, the government owes road contractors, which is a shame, considering their claims of stabilizing the economy; there is nothing remarkable about their achievements that warrants commendation,” he noted.

He expressed optimism that if Ghanaians elect Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in 2028, he will outperform the NDC, which claims to have achieved something extraordinary in improving the country’s fortunes.

The former Abuakwa South MP took the opportunity to thank the NPP delegates, particularly those from his constituency, who participated in their presidential primaries and voted overwhelmingly for Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, giving him another chance to lead them into the upcoming 2028 elections.
