The founder and presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor has reportedly passed on.
Sources close to the family reveal she died Tuesday evening (October 28) at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital following a short illness.
The 72-year-old was among the 13 presidential candidates cleared by the Electoral Commission to contest the 7 December polls.
Having contested in two previous elections, Akua Donkor is the third candidate on the 2024 presidential ballot.
She promised free health care for all Ghana, free electricity and water, duty-free port services for the clearance of goods and remuneration for farmers.
Akua Donkor’s journey toward the presidency began with her election as Assemblywoman for Herman. In 2012, she attempted to run independently but was disqualified by the Electoral Commission on eligibility grounds. She threw her weight behind PPP’s Papa Kwesi Nduom.
In 2016, she was again disqualified after her Ghana Freedom Party’s (GFP) headquarters in Kabu, located in the Eastern Region was guttered by fire.
