Mr. Kwame Owusu Danso, the Vice-Presidential nominee for the Afrafranto Alliance, has criticized Ghana’s current economic situation, blaming both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
During his acceptance speech in Accra, Mr. Danso said both John Mahama’s NDC government and Nana Akufo-Addo’s NPP government have mismanaged the economy. He believes Ghanaians are ready for a new direction under the leadership of Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Afrafranto Alliance.
Mr. Danso reminded the audience of Ghana’s strong economic growth under the late President John Evans Atta Mills, where the economy grew by 14.3% due to oil revenue. However, he expressed disappointment that this progress was lost under former President John Mahama, who had to take Ghana to the IMF after the economy struggled.
“What we see today is even worse,” Mr. Danso said. “Prices of basic goods are rising, and the cedi is losing value. Ghana’s economy is on the verge of collapse.”
He also criticized Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for failing as the head of Ghana’s Economic Management Team, saying that Bawumia’s promises of economic stability had not been fulfilled.
“The possibility of the dollar rate reaching GHS 50, the inflation rate crossing 100 per cent, and Ghana’s public debt stock reaching GHS 2 trillion under his leadership is real,” Mr. Danso warned.
He added that Ghanaians are tired of leaders with impressive titles who fail to deliver. “We cannot continue to accept leaders who put their personal interests ahead of the well-being of the people,” Mr. Danso declared. “We need a new vision, one that focuses on job creation, economic empowerment, and a sustainable future.”
Mr. Danso pledged full support for Alan Kyerematen’s Great Transformational Plan, which he believes is the solution to the country’s problems. “What we propose is not a mere continuation of the status quo,” he said. “We propose a complete overhaul – one that is based on sustainable growth and economic empowerment for all Ghanaians.”
