Cape Coast Fisherfolk Protest Land Sale, Urge Government Intervention

Fisherfolk and fishmongers at Bakano in the Cape Coast South municipal of the Central region have furiously registered their displeasure over what they see as state capture.

Irate residents, in an interview with the media, demanded a probe into the alleged sale of a parcel of land at Bakano to a private developer.

According to them, Bakano is their source of living, but since its surrounding lands have been sold, they find it difficult to access the sea, which has also posed a danger to their lives.

In their assertions, all efforts to get the authorities’ attention to the problem have proven futile.

The aggrieved residents, clad in red armbands and wielding placards, are calling on the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson, the paramount chief of Oguaa, Osaberima Kwesi Atta, and President Akufo-Addo to intervene.

They allege illegalities in the sale of the land and challenge the seller and the buyer to prove certifications.

Following this, some of the fishermen also spoke with the media.

On his part, the Assembly Member for Fawohodzie Electoral Area, Hon. Benjamin Agbenyeko Anokye, detailed to the media what he knows about the issue.
