Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi officially started operations on Monday, July 1, 2024. The Ghana Airports Limited (GACL) announced this in a statement.
Before opening fully, the airport conducted subsystem operations and simulation exercises to ensure everything was working smoothly. For the past three days, three flights have been operating to test the systems.
Both local and international flights are now landing successfully at the airport. The GACL emphasized their commitment to providing world-class airport facilities and operations.
This is Ghana’s second international airport, aiming to position the country as a preferred aviation hub in West Africa.
The airport features a presidential hub, terminals with an annual capacity for 800,000 passengers, boarding gates, medical facilities, 16 immigration booths, staff offices, a forex bureau, and arrival facilities.
