Grammys 2024: Tyla beats Davido, Burna Boy, Asake to win Grammy for Best African Performance

South African musician Tyla has won the 2024 Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance for her song “Water.”

Tyla’s “Water” contested the Best African Music Performance Grammy with songs by Nigerian singers: Davido’s ‘Unavailable,’ Asake’s ‘Amapiano,’ Burna Boy’s ‘City Boys,’ and Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush.’

“Water”, released July 2023, reached the top ten in United States, Australia, Denmark, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland, Sweden. In the United States, she made history by becoming the first South African soloist in 55 years to make an entry into the Billboard Hot 100, following Hugh Masekela’s “Grazing in the Grass” in 1968.

The 2024 Grammy Awards was held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
