The Ashanti Youth Association, along with market queens and traders in the Ashanti region, on Wednesday, convened to address the recent  controversial statement made by the Ashanti regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Wontumi reportedly asserted on January 3rd that he has his own kingdom, and this has infuriated people of Ashanti Region, as his comment is seen as challenging the authority of the Asantehene.

Speaking to media on behalf of the group, Mr Amaning Kwarteng slammed Wontumi, and warned him not to step his foot around the premises of Manhyia palace and palaces across the Ashanti kingdom.

“Chairman WONTUMI should take a lesson from Kwame Tuah, who betrayed the Asamteman. He is banned at Manhyia premises.” stated Amaning Kwarteng during the press conference.

They also warned the vice president and flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Bawumia not to align himself with Wontumi, else they will vote against the him in the 2024 election.

“If you say you have your own kingdom, then you have disrespected the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu. We don’t want to see Wontumi again. We are NPP people but we don’t want him in our midst. Bawumia should take note that if he continues to associates himself with Wontumi, then we won’t vote for him.” the group stated.
