Renowned Ghanaian music producer and sound engineer, David Kojo Kyei, professionally known as Kaywa, recently shared his invaluable experience working with legendary singer Daddy Lumba.
Kaywa had the privilege of producing two highly acclaimed albums for Daddy Lumba, “Aware Pa Ye Anibre” in 2009 and “Ko Hye Po” in 2011. These albums boasted several chart-topping hits that resonated with fans across the nation.
The album “Aware Pa Ye Anibre” showcased unforgettable tracks such as “Anadwo Yi Dei,” which featured a young Sarkodie, who was still relatively new to the industry at the time. Additionally, the album included the inspiring gospel anthem “Eye N’adom” and the captivating collaboration “Dikon” featuring Samini and Stone Bradez.
Similarly, the “Ko Hye Po” album left an indelible mark on the music scene, with notable songs like “Ye Ne Wo Sere Kwa,” “Wapere Anu Wo Ho Dee,” and “Hwan Na Etwie.”
In an interview with Hammer of Kumasi-based Pure FM, Kaywa, who also serves as the CEO of the “Highly Spiritual Music” record label, expressed his admiration for Daddy Lumba, ranking him among the top three artists he enjoys working with.
Kaywa attributed his growth as a music producer to the invaluable lessons learnt during his time working with Daddy Lumba. He acknowledged that Daddy Lumba’s unique approach of entering the studio with preconceived beats and melodies, instructing the producer to recreate them on the keyboard, greatly expanded his knowledge and honed his production skills.
Addressing prevalent rumours about difficulties working with Daddy Lumba, Kaywa dispelled them; emphasizing Daddy Lumba’s respectful and humble nature during studio sessions. He praised Daddy Lumba for never imposing his ideas on the producer, affording Kaywa the creative freedom to make final decisions.
Moreover, Kaywa revealed that Daddy Lumba’s immense satisfaction with the albums he produced translated into a gesture of genuine appreciation. Overwhelmed by the quality of the final products, Daddy Lumba willingly paid Kaywa an amount that exceeded their initial agreement, showcasing his deep appreciation for the producer’s remarkable work.
