Renowned Ghanaian entertainment pundit and analyst, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo, has shared his observations about the music scene during his week-long vacation in Kenya.

Speaking to Property FM, Asamoah-Baidoo revealed that he was surprised to find that Ghanaian music was not played on Kenyan radio stations. Instead, he noticed a prevalence of Nigerian and Kenyan songs being broadcasted.

During his stay in Nairobi, Asamoah-Baidoo made it a point to request that local drivers tune in to the radio so that he could familiarize himself with the local music scene. However, to his disappointment, he discovered that Ghanaian music was noticeably absent, while Nigerian songs dominated the airwaves. This revelation was surprising to him, given that Ghanaian artists have achieved significant success in recent years, particularly through collaborations with Nigerian musicians, resulting in their songs dominating African music charts.

Asamoah-Baidoo expressed his expectations of hearing songs from acclaimed Ghanaian artists such as Kelvyn Boy, Camidoh, and Stonebwoy, who have gained recognition through their collaborations with Nigerian counterparts. However, despite their achievements and popularity, their music did not receive airtime during his visit to Kenya.

The absence of Ghanaian music on Kenyan radio stations left Asamoah-Baidoo pondering the reasons behind this disparity. While Ghanaian artists have made significant strides in the music industry, it appears that their reach has yet to extend to certain regions, as evident in the Kenyan market.

The revelations made by Asamoah-Baidoo shed light on the dynamics of the African music industry, showcasing the prevailing dominance of Nigerian music and highlighting potential challenges faced by artists from other countries in gaining exposure and recognition beyond their home territories.
