Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson expressed regret over a photograph she took with President Nana Akufo-Addo in 2016, as revealed in her recently released memoir titled “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson.”
In her book, the 37-year-old actress revealed that she met with President Akufo-Addo in his office to congratulate him after his victory over John Mahama in the 2016 elections. Yvonne, known for her criticisms of the previous NDC government, mentioned that if she had known President Akufo-Addo would be disappointing, she would not have congratulated him or taken a photograph with him.
Yvonne Nelson stated, “The NPP, led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, won massively in both the presidential and parliamentary elections. Some friends and I went to congratulate the president-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, with whom we took a photograph. It is a photograph I regret taking.”
She further expressed disappointment with President Akufo-Addo’s governance, mentioning that he was initially perceived as incorruptible and believed to be the solution to rampant corruption in the country. However, in her view, his government’s alleged excessive borrowing, corruption, and extravagant spending have negatively affected the nation’s economy, leading to what she referred to as “economic dumsor.”
