The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected Charles Opoku as their candidate for the forthcoming Assin North by-election.
Opoku polled 397 to beat his opponent Frederick Amoah Kyei with over 200 votes to secure the candidacy.
He polled 397 votes while his opponent Mr Freeman polled 136 votes.
Charles Opoku’s nomination as the party’s candidate has been slammed by some party insiders and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to the NDC, the NPP candidate is not a member of the constituency as his name is not on the voters register.
But coming to his defence, the Electoral Commission of Ghana stated that parliamentary candidates are only required to be registered voters.
According to the Commission, the constituency they are registered in does not hinder them from contesting for an election in another constituency.
